Syrah Tasting Results for San Jose State University/Navy Tailgate on 11/22/13 (Game score was Navy: 60; SJSU: 54 in triple overtime)
9 Tasters – Comments: People did much better this time in adhering to the local appellation goal (Santa Cruz Mtns down through Paso Robles). Again we had a ringer (not a Syrah), but tasters were on their toes a bit better this time and downgraded it for non-varietal characteristics (although, within its own varietal context it was a very good wine). The J.Lohr was disappointing– it exhibited simple grapey characters with no complexity. As usual, wines scoring within 5% of each other were given the same ranking.
