Bottle Prep

Bottle Preparation for Blind Tasting

It is important to wrap the bottle in a manner that obscures the identification while ensuring that the wrapping does not slip off the bottle.

On a 3×5 inch index card, record the following before wrapping the bottle:
Your Name
Name of Winery or Chateau
Vintage Year
Type of Wine (e.g. Zinfandel)
Proprietary Name, if any (e.g. Special Reserve)
Price You Paid
Where You Bought It

Remove the neck foil.  Prepare a piece of aluminum foil 12 inches wide and about 15 inches long.  On a flat surface, place the bottle on the foil’s shiny side up, then follow illustrations below.

Finished Wrap

Step 1: Overlap the bottom of the bottle about 2 inches. The foil should cover about half the neck.

Step 2: Roll the bottle, keeping the foil smooth.

Step 3: Place a small piece of tape to secure the overlap

Step 4: Crimp the foil over the bottom of the bottle. Tape as necessary to assure that the bottle will not slip out the bottom

Step 5:  Crimp the neck overlap around the neck.
